Phantom Limb
new paintings of war and renewal
June 26th - July 24th, 2010

In these paintings, Luke Hillestad explores themes of loss and healing from war.
He uses the idea of Phantom Limb Syndrome as a metaphor for the memory, sensation, and longing that we are left with after loss. In these narratives, all painted from live models, broken warriors are tended to by shamans, lovers are divided, and bones and memory are exhumed from the earth.

Dates:
Opening Reception: June 26
Discussion Forum: July 15

This is Hillestad's first show featuring the works he created while in Norway with painter Odd Nerdrum
During that time he developed new techniques, practices, and philosophies with an international community of painters.
There will be a forum at the end of show for discussion of these things.
